Dhaka attack: ASK worried over 2 ‘missing’ hostages

Rights body Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) today expressed deep concern about two hostages of Gulshan cafe attack who went ‘missing’ after being rescued.

Issuing a press statement, it demanded that authorities concerned should take appropriate step in line with the law and show highest professional attitude over the matter.

The families of Abul Hasnat Rezaul Karim, a former teacher of North South University, and Tahmid Hasib Khan, an overseas student, alleged that they cannot be traced after being rescued from the Holey Artisan Bakery on July 2.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police had picked them up but now they are saying that the duo is no more in police custody, said the statement quoting media report.

They were in law enforcers’ suspects list, it also read.

“A clear statement from related authorities is needed over their whereabouts. It is also needed to inform the families about the issue,” it added.

Militants took hostages at Holey Artisan Bakery on July 1 evening, killing 20 people including foreigners.

An army commando operation ended the 12-hour hostage standoff the next morning, killing six suspected militants and rescuing 13 hostages, according to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
