Autopsy of Gulshan attackers done at CMH

The autopsies of the five alleged terrorists who were killed during Operation Thunderbolt have been completed at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) this evening.

Four forensic specialists conducted the autopsies, Dr Sohel Mahmud, assistant professor at the Department  of Forensic Medicine of Dhaka Medical College, told The Daily Star.

“Some of the bodies had bullets inside and some had splinters. Fingers and wrists of some bodies were blown off due to bombs or grenades,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gulshan police said that no one came to the police station to claim the bodies although the CMH authorities did not hand over the bodies to them.

“If anybody comes to us for the bodies we will hand those over after following official procedure,” said Rafiqul Islam, assistant commissioner at Gulshan Zone.

On July 1, armed gunmen stormed at Holey Artisan bakery at Road 79 in Gulshan-2 of Dhaka and took all guests and employees hostage.

Twenty bodies including nine Italians and seven Japanese nationals were recovered from the crime scene the following day as the crisis ended after a 50-minute army-led joint forces operation codenamed Operation Thunderbolt.

Two policemen and six militants were also killed.
