Police have arrested two members of a union parishad in Rangpur’s Sadar upazila in connection with the attack on Hindu people at Horkoli Thakurpara village over an alleged Facebook post that left one killed and 20 others injured on November 10.

A police team launched a drive in Mominpur union last night and arrested Fazlu and Joynal, M Babul Miah, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station told The Daily Star Online this afternoon.

With the arrest of the duo, the number of the arrests has risen to 70 people, the OC said.

Fazlu and Joynal went into hiding since the attack took place, he said.

On November 10, a man was killed and 20 others were hurt after police fired rubber bullets and teargas shells as violence flared up in the village, over the alleged Facebook post “demeaning Islam.”

Police filed a case accusing 2,000 people, including 28 named, in connection with the attack in Horkoli Thakurpara village of Gangachara upazila.
