Rupganj boy killed brutally

A 10-year-old boy was brutally killed allegedly by pumping air into his body through his rectum in Narayanganj’s Rupganj upazila this afternoon.

Victim Sagor Barman, 10, was a worker of a local factory. Family claimed he was killed by pumping air into his body. Police said they are yet to ascertain the cause of his death.

He was found lying beside a compressor machine at Jubaida Textile Mills in Jatramura area around 1:30pm, said Ratan Barman, father of the victim.

The father, who rescued the boy and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Sagor’s abdomen was swollen, “probably with the air pumped into him.”

DMCH’s Emergency Medical Officer Firoz Ahmed told The Daily Star that the boy’s abdomen was “abnormally swollen” before he succumbed at the hospital around 3:30pm.

Ismail Hossain, officer-in-charge of Rupganj Police Station, told The Daily Star that the authorities “had heard about the incident” and was looking into the complaint.

Mohibul Islam, superintendent of Narayanganj police also echoed similar words. However, the lawmen could not ascertain the boy’s reason of death.

No case was filed over the incident and nobody arrested.
