'Rise High Bangladesh' at Chittagong University
Cheerful response to export idea contest
The export idea contest 'Rise High Bangladesh' launched its campus activation progammes simultaneously in Dhaka and Chittagong on August 17, 2016. In the port city, a day long event was held at the Chittagong University Campus that saw vigorous participation of university students.
The programme area was nicely decorated with banners and posters containing information of the contest. Despite regular classes and examinations, a great number of students approached before and after class to the booths set up on the campus premise. The Rise High volunteers explained to them the objectives, incentives, rules of participation.
The most attractive part of the programme was the puzzle solving contest. The students were required to pick a clue card with information on a country's imported goods, and they had to guess the country. Successful participants were given prizes.
The programme generated exuberance among the students. One of the winners of the puzzle contest, HM Rajan Ahmmed, a student of Banking Department, expressed excitedly "I must admire this initiative. Various export-ideas are already popping up in my mind. Most probably I am going to submit something on jute. My grandfather used to cultivate jute. But now it has become rare in our village." Another student from Political Science Department, Tasnima Sultana, said "I have already set up my mind to join the contest. Bangladesh has a rich heritage of handicrafts. If we make an ingenious export plan, these products will find a good market anywhere in the world."
The university authority responded very positively when asked about the initiative. The Vice Chancellor of Chittagong University, Prof. Dr. Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury, said, "This type of contest is unique in Bangladesh. It will certainly motivate our students to think about the country's economic prospect. It will harness their creative energy and prepare them for the competitive world."
