Nusrat murder: Nuruddin, Shamim ‘confess’ to their involvement

Nuruddin and Shahadat Hossain Shamim, two prime accused of madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case, have reportedly confessed to their involvement with the killing.

While giving statement before a court in Feni, both of them admitted that Nusrat was set on fire upon the instruction of principal of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa Siraj Ud Doula.

Additional Superintendent of Police Taherul Huq Chowhan of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) disclosed the information while briefing reporters early today.

They gave 'confessional' statements before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Zakir Hossain for 10 hours from 3:00pm, reports a correspondent from the spot.

The court took long time to properly interrogate and assess their confessional statement, the police official said.

Although both the accused described the whole thing in details, it cannot be disclosed for the sake of the investigation, he added.

Earlier, PBI arrested Nuruddin from Bhaluka and Shahadat Hossain Shamim from Muktagachha upazila of Mymensingh district on Friday. They are the number two and number three accused in the Nusrat murder case respectively.

SONAGAZI MUNICIPALITY COUNCILLOR REMANDED

Sonagazi municipality Councillor Moksud Alam, one of the prime accused of the murder case, was placed on a five-day remand.

Senior Judicial Magistrate of Feni Shoraf Uddin Ahmed gave the orders after Md Shah Alam, PBI inspector and also the investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.

Moksud Alam, suspended General Secretary of Awami League (Sonagazi municipality unit), was arrested on April 11 from Fakirapool area of Dhaka in connection with the case.

WHAT HAPPENED TO NUSRAT?

After fighting for her life for five days, Nusrat succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital on April 10.

On April 6, she was set afire at an examination centre of Alim examination allegedly by students loyal to Principal Siraj Ud Doula of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa after he was arrested and subsequently suspended as Rafi had accused him of sexually harassing her.
