Cyclone Bulbul: Families of 10 dead fishermen given compensation

Families of 10 fishermen who died reportedly during the cyclone Bulbul were given compensation from the district administration.

Each of the families were given Tk 25,000 as compensation, Reports our Jhalakathi correspondent.

All the dead fishermen hailed from Abdullahpur village of Bhola district.

A probe committee has been formed in connection with the incident, said Mohammed Masud Alam Siddique, deputy commissioner in Bhola.

The bodies of nine fishermen were recovered from the Meghna at Bahadurpur-Elisha point last night while the body of another recovered from the same spot the day before yesterday.

A fishing trawler, with 24 fishermen on board, was returning from Chandpur on Sunday when it capsized in the river’s Elisha point around noon. Thirteen managed to swim ashore. 

In Barguna and Bhola, 51 fishermen remain traceless after they had gone to sea despite the storm warning.
