Tongi factory fire: ‘Explosion shook entire area’

The explosion took place at Tampaco Foils Limited in Tongi BSCIC industrial area of Gazipur shook the entire area, said Riyad Ahmmed, an official of the factory and also a resident of a nearby place.

"First I thought it was an earthquake but later I came to know that it was boiler explosion at the factory," said Riyad, a marketing executive of the factory.

A large number of workers were present at the factory during the incident as many of the morning workers were rushing to the factory to take the charges from the night shift labourers, he said.

The factory runs three shifts round the clock, each with eight hours, he said.
