Christian trader killing: 5-day remand sought for ‘arrestee’

Police today sought five-day remand for the youth who was shown arrested in the murder case of Christian grocer Sunil Gomez in Natore’s Bonpara yesterday.

Abdul Hai Talukdar, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch of Police in Natore, produced Sabuz Hossain, 35, before a Natore court seeking the remand.

Sabuj, a tenant of Sunil, was picked up yesterday on suspicion over the killing. 

The court however fixed tomorrow to hear the prayer and ordered police to send him jail, Talukdar, also the investigation officer of the case, told our Natore correspondent.

Sunil’s daughter Swapna Gomez filed the case with Baraigram Police Station last night, accusing unidentified criminals, said Shafiqul Islam, assistant superintend of police, Baraigram circle.

Assailants hacked 60-year old Sunil in his shop at Bonpara Christian Palli in the upazila after offering Sunday prayers, leaving him dead.

He was buried this evening after performing all Christian ritual, our Natore correspondent reports.
