Judges' code of conduct: Govt gets one more week to issue gazette

The Supreme Court today gave a one-week time to the government for issuing a gazette notification on the discipline and code of conduct for lower court judges.

The apex court passed the order in response to a petition moved by Attorney General Mahbubey Alam seeking two weeks’ time for issuing the notification.

The attorney general moved the petition during the hearing of Masdar Hossain case, popularly known as the judiciary separation case.

A six-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha adjourned the hearing of the case for a week.

The SC has earlier given time to the government for issuing the gazette notification on the issue for 21 times.

After a meeting with the chief justice on July 20, Law Minister Anisul Huq told reporters that there was significant progress made at the meeting for finalising the rules and issuing the gazette.
