3 more Biman hajj flights cancelled

Three more hajj flights of Biman Bangladesh Airlines were cancelled today for shortage of pilgrims after two days of smooth operation.

The three flights cancelled were BG 1051, scheduled to depart today, and BG 3039 and BG 3041, scheduled to take off Sunday, said Shakil Meraj, general manager, public relation, of Biman.

So far, the national flag carrier has cancelled a total of 17 flights losing the opportunity to send over 9,700 pilgrims to Makkah, Saudi Arabia, he told The Daily Star this morning.

As of 9:00am this morning, Biman ferried 22,801 pilgrims while Saudi Arabian Airlines carried 25,400 to Saudi Arabia. The last date to ferry pilgrims is August 26.

This year a total of 1.27 lakh Bangladeshi pilgrims got quota to perform hajj.
