Attack on Nasirnagar Hindus: Prime suspect remanded

A Brahmanbaria court today granted a five-day remand for the prime suspect in connection with a case filed over the October 30 attack on Hindus in Nasirnagar upazila.

The court of Brahmanbaria Senior Judicial Magistrate Shorafuddin Ahmed passed the order after law enforcers produced the accused before it with a seven-day remand prayer around 2:30 pm, our Brahmanbaria correspondent reports quoting Court Inspector Md Mahbubur Rahman.​

The suspect, Haripur Union Parishad Chairman Dewan Atikur Rahman Akhi, was held from Bhatara in Dhaka on Thursday.

Later on Friday, police sought a seven-day remand for Akhi but the hearing was not held due to a public holiday.

Unruly zealots carried out a synchronised attack on the Hindus in the upazila and vandalised around 100 homes and at least five temples and looted valuables over a Facebook post On October 30. The attackers also beat up over 100 people of the minority community.
