Miscreants have killed Rangamati’s Jubo League leader Nurul Islam Nayan in a bid to snatch his motorbike and to sell it out.

Ali Ahasan Khan, the superintendent of police in Khagrachhari, said this today after the army-led joint force arrested two people -- Runel Chakma and Junel Chakma -- for their alleged involvement in the killing.

“Runel and Junel gave their confessional statement before police,” our local correspondent reports quoting the police official.

Nayan, the organising secretary of Longadu Sadar upazila unit of Jubo League, was found dead on a road in Dighinala upazila of Rangamati on June 1.

Following confessional statements of the arrestees, divers of Fire Service and Civil Defence of Khagrachhari spotted Nayan’s missing motorcycle in Maini river of the upazila and recovered it this afternoon.

The miscreants in the guise of passenger hit the victim's head with an iron rod on Dighinala-Khagrachhari road and managed to flee along with the motorcycle, leaving him dead on the spot, the SP said.

After failing to sell the motorcycle, miscreants threw it in the Maini River on June 4, the police official added.

He used to carry passengers on his motorbike on rent in and outside the Rangamati area.

Earlier on Friday, police arrested three Bangalee settlers identified as Md Jasim, Md Didar and Md Babul Mia, during a raid in Longadu.
