Former lawmaker from Cox's Bazar-4 (Ukhia-Teknaf) constituency Abdur Rahman Bodi has tested positive for coronavirus.

His samples were tested at the IEDCR field lab in Cox's Bazar Medical College on Friday, the former MP told The Daily Star last night.

His wife Shahin Akhter, also the sitting MP from the same constituency, tested negative for the virus.

Bodi was initially admitted to the private Union Hospital in Cox's Bazar district town and is now on his way to Dhaka by road for better treatment.

He had been residing at his apartment in the district town for last few days while exhibiting Covid-19 symptoms.

Bodi is also widely believed to be a yaba godfather.

Sources claim that a big portion of his income comes from smuggling in yaba from Myanmar. He hogged the headlines in this connection numerous times in the recent past.

The former MP has been named as a yaba godfather in reports of the Department of Narcotics Control alongside several intelligence and law enforcement agencies.
