7 human skulls found in Mirpur 'militant den', Rab says

- Skulls belong to 2 children, 2 women and 3 men

- 3rd, 4th floors damaged in blasts

- More time needed to clean-up site

Lawmen have confirmed the death of seven persons, recovering their severed skulls in the six-storey building on Mirpur’s Mazar Road.

Benazir Ahmed, director general of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), told the media the skulls belonged to two children, two women and three men.

According to him, the bodies were believed to have been incinerated and disintegrated in the series of blasts last night that could be seen as a big fire visible from far off.

The inside of the fourth-floor flat, where the suspected militants were believed to be holing up, was still heated. Law enforcers were cooling the place and trying to enter.

Lawmen are under the impression that the suspected militants might have killed themselves in the latest series of explosions last night.

Today’s operation resumed from 9:30am with bomb disposal units, dog squads and the assistance of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence, he told The Daily Star.

Fire service headquarters’ Duty Officer Mahfuzul Revan told The Daily Star that five units of fire fighters were spraying water and assisting in the operation.

The suspected militants were believed to have been residing on the fourth floor of the six-storey building. The total number of inhabitants of that flat was believed to be around seven.

Rab cordoned off the house following information about the suspect from two alleged members of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), both detained from a house at Elenga in Kalihati upazila of Tangail late Monday night.
