Uber scholarship for Shahanaj's daughters

Uber has given scholarship to the daughters of Shahanaj Akter, the woman who came to limelight after her story of earning her income through the ridesharing app surfaced on social media.

Her daughters received the scholarships under the GenerationNext Initiative – a programme to arrange opportunities and scholarships for selected Uber driver-partners.

As the first beneficiary of the initiative, Uber arranged scholarships for both the daughters of Shahanaj Akter for at least one year providing tuition fees for the girls. 

Shahanaj was born and raised in a poverty-ridden family in Dhaka. She is a divorcee and provides for her daughters alone through ridesharing on Uber.

Her daughters study in the ninth grade and first grade respectively in Mirpur Bangla Higher Secondary School and Urban Preparatory School.
