Import effective medicine to kill Aedes mosquito, HC directs govt

Observing that the existing medicine is not effective for eliminating Aedes mosquito, which causes dengue fever, the High Court today directed the government to import effective medicine to kill mosquito.

The court asked the ministries of the local government and rural development, health and the directorate general of health services to provide all necessary assistances to Dhaka two city corporations to import effective medicine for preventing the mosquito menace.

Delivering order on a suomoto rule, the HC directed the authorities to ensure treatment to all dengue patients at all government hospitals in Dhaka under special arrangements for 24 hours.

The court also asked the government to take steps so that a doctor, not below the rank of associate professor, monitors the overall situation round the clock and whether the dengue patients are being treated with the special arrangement and to ensure that no dengue patient leaves hospital without treatment.

The private hospitals also can comply with the directives on humane ground, the HC bench of Justice Tariq Ul Hakim and Justice Md Shohrowardi said.     

The bench also asked the authorities to immediately import sufficient detection kits for examining the dengue fever of the patients and to supply the kits at all the hospitals across the country.

The court said it will hold hearing on the issue after its reopening as the court will go for an Eid vacation from tomorrow and will reopen on August 18.
