Homebound people leaving Dhaka to celebrate Eid with dear ones via trains faced sufferings on the second day of the journey as several trains lagged behind the schedule.

Though the rush of the holidaymakers was less compared to that of yesterday, the schedule of at least four among 17 trains could not be maintained, our staff correspondent reports.

Four intercity trains -- Chilahati-bound Nilsagar Express, Rangpur Express, Chattogram-bound Prabhati Express and Khulna-bound Sundarban Express -- departed Kamalapur Railway Station in the capital behind the schedule.

Meanwhile, Chapainawbgaj-bound Rajshahi Express, scheduled to leave the station at 2:20pm, was rescheduled at 2:45pm. However, the train could not reach the platform till last reported at 2:30pm.

Aminul Haque, station manager of Kamalapur Railway Station, acknowledged the delay saying that a total of 17 trains left the station till 10:30am and four of them got delayed.

Clarifying the reason behind the delay of Rangpur Express, Haque said the train initially got delayed due to a storm and later on there was a technical glitch in one of its bogies on Thursday.

The Rangpur Express, which was delayed by more than seven hours yesterday, was replaced by another train under special arrangement.

The passengers of the train complained of sufferings as they had difficulty to find out their seats mentioned in the tickets.

Reasons behind the delay of the other three trains were not known yet.
