Issue gazette notification immediately

RU quota reformists urge govt

Quota reformists yesterday staged a demonstration on Rajshahi University campus demanding immediate gazette notification for bringing reforms to the quota system for civil service jobs.

Around 60 students under the banner of Bangladesh Shadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad brought out a procession and held a rally in front of the central library after parading through key locations on the campus.

Addressing the rally, Mashud Munnaf, convener of the Parishad's RU unit, said they want the publication of the gazette at the soonest as they want to get back to their studies.

He urged the authorities to ensure security on the campus as the students involved in the quota movement have been staying outside the campus due to  lack of security over the past three months.

The reformists at the rally also demanded withdrawal of all “false and fabricated cases” filed against them and punishment for those who attacked them.

After the beating of Tarikul Islam Tarek, a joint convener of the platform, by activists of BCL during a demonstration of the reformists at the main gate of the university on July 2, reformist leaders have been staying off campus.
