‘I was journalist once upon a time,’ says Chief Justice Mahmud Hossain

Newly appointed Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain today said once upon a time he was a journalist.

“Once I was also a journalist. I had worked for newspaper. It is good aspect that females have come forward to journalism profession,” he said.

The chief justice came up with the comment while leaders and members of Law Reporters Forum (LRF), a body of the journalists covering reports on law, constitution and human rights, led by its President Ashutosh Sarkar made a courtesy call to him at his Supreme Court office this afternoon.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam attended the meeting.

Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, who had worked for the daily Sangbad as a reporter, was appointed 22nd chief justice of Bangladesh on February 2. He took oath as the chief justice on February 3.

Saying that the SC officials concerned don’t provide information, LRF President Ashutosh requested the chief justice to take steps so that reporters get relevant information from the SC offices for its publishing in the media.

Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain said he will look into this issue.

LRF’s former president Md Badiuzzaman, its Vice President Mashudul Haque, General Secretary Azizul Islam Pannu, Joint Secretary Kabir Hossain, Treasure Ahmed Sarwar Bhuiyan, Publicity and Publication Secretary, Alamgir Hossain, Office Secretary Aminul Islam Mallik, Executive Members Habibur Rahman, Abdul Zabbar Khan, Afzal Hossain Mahidi Hasan Dalim, and its general members Farah Hossain, Sakera Arzu Shimu, Jannatul Ferdaus Tanvee, Masudur Rahman Raana, Noor Mohammad, SM Ashiquzzaman and Marzia Hashmi Mumu, among others, were present during the meeting.
