Law enforcers will provide “special security” to writers, bloggers and visitors at the Ekushey Book Fair if they ask for it, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police said today.

DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said this at a press briefing on the security measures chalked out for the month-long book fair that begins tomorrow.

“We will provide special security to the concerned person,” the police commissioner told reporters at DMP media centre this morning.

The police official also informed that DMP will construct seven watch towers in and around the book fair and Dhaka University campus as a part of the security measure.

No one will be allowed to stay in the adjacent parks except the fair premises after 5:30pm, he said.

The law enforcers have made a remarkable and satisfactory development in the writer blogger Avijit Roy’s murder case, the police official said while replying to a question in this regard.

Bangladesh-born US citizen Roy was hacked to death on the Dhaka University campus on February 26 while returning from Ekushey Book Fair with his wife Rafida Ahmed Banna, who was also badly injured in the attack.
