Bangladesh’s transition to developing country a historic event: PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said getting the final recommendation for Bangladesh's transition to a developing country -- from least-developed country status -- is a historic event.
The premier said this while briefing the media virtually about the UN recommendation for graduating from LDC status.
"It's a historic event. The transition from a least-developed country to a developing country is a matter of great pride for us, on the occasion of the golden jubilee of our country," she said.
Sheikh Hasina started briefing the media virtually from Gono Bhaban at 4:00pm.
Earlier in the day, the United Nations Committee for Development Policy recommended Bangladesh's graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status along with Nepal and Lao PDR.
Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh has achieved the full requirements of being a developed country.
She said, "It is a matter of pride as a nation. It is the combined efforts of all who have made it possible to achieve this milestone."
"I will do what needs to be done to address the challenges of upholding the recognition as a developing country," she said.

BANGLADESH TO BECOME DEVELOPED COUNTRY SOON
Sheikh Hasina hoped that Bangladesh would soon become a developed country if the ongoing pace of progress is maintained.
"If this trend of development continues, Bangladesh will soon be established as a developed and prosperous country in the global arena," she said.
"I'm dedicating this achievement to the new generation, who will take today's Bangladesh further and build it as a developed and prosperous country," she added.
WILL CERTAINLY GET VACCINATED
The prime minister said she will also take Covid-19 vaccine at a certain time.
"I will definitely get vaccinated. At first, I want to see how many people I have been able to provide vaccine for. I have targeted a certain number of people for vaccination. Then I will take the vaccine," Hasina said.
