Condemning the attack on Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal at Dhaka University campus by Bangladesh Chhatra League, top leaders of eight progressive student organisations urged the authorities of Dhaka University (DU) to hold the meeting of Paribesh Parishad immediately to ensure congenial atmosphere on campus for students.

They also urged the DU authorities to ensure a violence-free campus for the students.

They issued a statement where they termed BCL a "terror organisation" and said the ruling party's student wing BCL have been carrying out continuous attacks on JCD men, general students and have foiled several student movements using muscle power.

The statement further said the Paribesh Parishad of the university was supposed to work to ensure a congenial atmosphere, safe environment and violence-free campus for students.

But due to the university administration's unwillingness, the Paribesh Parishad has remained dysfunctional for a long, it read.

They called upon DU Vice Chancellor to hold the meeting of the Paribesh Parishad immediately for the welfare of the students.

The eight progressive students' organisations are: a faction of Bangladesh Students Union, Bangladesh Chhatra Federation, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, Biplobi Chhatra Maitree, Gonotrantrik Chhatra Council, Greater Chittagong Hill Tracts Students' Council and Biplobi Chhatra Jubo Andolon.
