After a long wait of over 18 months, students of Rajshahi University (RU) finally moved in the halls this morning.

Students, who had at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine, started to enter their respective halls after the gates opened around 10:30am, showing vaccination certificate and hall ID card

The festive atmosphere is prevailing on campus as students reunited with their friends and peers, our RU correspondent reports quoting authorities.

"We had been waiting so long to return to our halls. After these long months, returning to campus and having fun with friends is exciting," says Bablu Hasan, a resident of Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall.

In front of the halls, banners with health and safety rules were seen hanging.

Prof Julker Nain, convener of the provost council and provost of Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Hall, said, "We are welcoming students after completing all necessary preparations to ensure students' safety. Students seemed overjoyed, having returned after such a long absence."

After greeting students with flowers and sweets, University Vice-Chancellor Prof Golam Shabbir Sattar expressed his joy and also advised them to follow proper health guidelines.

Meanwhile, at the university's TSCC centre, a special vaccination booth has been set up to vaccinate students who have not been vaccinated yet.
