BCL leader enters female washroom in DU, makes obscene gestures

A student of Dhaka University has filed a complaint alleging that a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader made obscene gestures at her after entering the female washroom at Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) yesterday (August 17, 2022).

In the complaint, she said that the BCL leader was drunk when he entered the washroom, reports our DU correspondent.

She submitted the complaint to the assistant proctor of DU seeking justice for the incident.

The accused is Tanjin Al Amin, deputy cultural secretary of Central BCL committee, and also founder president at DU Abritti Songsod.

However, Tanjin claimed the matter is not true and said he entered the washroom thinking that it was the men's washroom.

When contacted, Tanjin told The Daily Star, "I entered the female washroom by mistake. I left the place as soon as I realised it was for females. Then I apologised to the student."

"I was not drunk. This allegation is not true. Now, I'll go to her to apologise again," he said.

Mahbubur Rahman, assistant proctor of the university said, "I received a complaint from a female student in a letter. It is a regrettable matter and we will look into it seriously."

In the complaint, the student said that Tanjin, a student of the Department of Political Science, entered the female washroom in a drunken state and made obscene gestures towards her in a semi-nude state.

When asked about the reason, Tanjin left the washroom and he along with some associates threatened her, the complainant said in the complaint.
