Year long Zainul festival at Shilpakala Academy
A year-long drawing competition for children was launched at the National Art Plaza of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) on January 3. As part of its year-long celebrations of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin's birth anniversary, BSA has organised the event. The children have been categorised in three groups-- first group consists of children from play group to class III, the second group consists of students from class IV to VI and the last group consists of students from class VII to X. Around two hundred children from different educational and cultural institutions in the city are taking part in the programme. The participating students will focus on Zainul's life, works, childhood, his village, Brahmaputra river and its scenic beauty among other subjects.
Liaquat Ali Lucky, director general of BSA inaugurated the competition as chief guest. Mohammad Anwar Hossain, director of the Fine Arts Department, BSA and other high officials of the academy were also present.
Earlier, the academy officially inaugurated the year long Zainul Festival on December 27. Around 300 children took part in a three day drawing competition. Begum Jahanara Abedin inaugurated the gala opening ceremony at the National Art Plaza of BSA. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu attended the programme as chief guest while cultural affairs secretary Dr Ranjit Kumar Biswas was present as a special guest. Artists Samarjit Roy Chowdhury, Hashem Khan, Abdul Mannan, Biren Shome, Dr Farida Zaman, Mustafizul Haque and architect cum artist Moinul Abedin (son of Zainul Abedin) addressed the occasion as guest of honours. Liaquat Ali Lucky, director general of BSA presided over the event.
The year-long celebrations of the academy feature drawing competitions, exhibitions and award giving ceremony, colourful rally, illustration, publication of souvenir, discussions, poster show, cultural programmes, pitha festival, artist camp, rural fair and more.
