The injured tigress, which was rescued from a village adjoining the Sundarbans 11 days ago, died at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Gazipur Wednesday.

The Bengal tigress was brought to the park from the Sundarbans on February 8 with injuries in its right forelimb, Shib Prasad, forest range officer of the park, told The Daily Star.

A team of doctors led by Professor Mizanur Rahman of Mymensingh Agricultural University (BAU) conducted a surgery on it on February 9.

The wounded tigress, which was spotted on January 28, died around 9:30am Wednesday, reports our Gazipur correspondent quoting the range officer.

The body of the tigress was laid to rest on the park premises after post-mortem.
