Wounded Bengal tiger rescued

Forest officials yesterday rescued a wounded Bengal Tiger from Lawdobe, a village adjoining the Sundarbans, in Khulna.
After treatment, the tiger would be released in the Bangabandhu Safari Park in Gazipur, said Dr Tapan Kumar Dey, chief of the wildlife division of forest department.
He said: “The tiger was captured with a nylon rope tied to its left forelimb. Maybe it was trapped in a deer hunting net.”
A photograph of the tiger taken by a group of tourists was published in The Daily Star on January 31. The tiger was spotted with a rope tied to its left forelimb at Lawdobe of Chandapi range in the Sundarbans.
Since then, the forest officials had been trying to capture the tiger. Finally, they have been able to capture the tiger near a pond beside the forest camp of Lawdobe village in Dakop upazila.
The young male tiger aged around seven years had been invading the village and adjoining areas for one month.
It started invading the human settlement, as it was unable to hunt other animals in the forest due to injuries in the leg, said Tapan Kumar.
It was not possible for anybody to tie a rope on a tiger's leg, he said, adding that it was supposed to be caught in a deer-hunting trap.
Veterinary surgeons of Bangabandhu Safari Park Dr Nizam Uddin and Dr Habibur Rahman, and forest officials started for Gazipur from Khulna last night with the tiger.
