US-Bangla plane crash: Nepalese probe body collecting evidence

The six-member inquiry team of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) is collecting evidence from the US-Bangla plane crash site at Nepal’s Tribhuvan International Airport.

“We have already visited the crash site and are collecting evidence,” Yagya Prasad Gautam, former CAANdirector general and the head of the team, told The Daily Star this evening.

He said they are closely working with Bangladesh authorities.

Gautam said they have also sought technical documents to the Nepalese airport authorities and are optimistic that they will be able to submit a report soon.

The official, however, didn’t give any timeframe regarding submission of the report.

The 78-seater Bombardier Dash 8 aircraft of US-Bangla Airlines boarding 71 people crashed at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on March 12, leaving at least 51 people dead.
