Bangladeshi director Suborna Senjutee Tushee has won a prestigious award at the 14th Eurasia International Film Festival for her short-film “Fish Monologue”.

She won the Grand Prix prize in short film category at the closing ceremony of the festival held in Kazakhstan on July 6, says a release at the website of the film festival.

This year, over 1000 films were placed for consideration for the Eurasia Film Festival, which was established in 1998 and is a major film forum in Central Asia accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF).

Fish Monologue or Meenalap, that tells about transformation of life in a lonely city and hope, was among the 36 short films which were selected for the competition.

Suborna Senjutee Tushee directed and wrote the screenplay of the 2017 movie Meenalap which was filmed in India’s Pune.

Meenalap (Fish Monologue) revolves around a Bengali couple migrated from a remote village of West Bengal to Pune city, working in a garments factory and struggling to meet the ends while expecting a child.

She obtained a PG Diploma in Film Direction and Script Writing from Film & Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune. Now she is engaged in film-making in Bangladesh.

“I am overjoyed to receive this prize. It has encouraged me to continue my journey as a filmmaker,” Suborna Senjutee told The Daily Star today.
