Nepal's Law Minister Sher Bahadur Tamang, who came under criticism from several quarters for his controversial remarks on Nepalese female students studying MBBS in Bangladesh, resigned today.

Minister Tamang announced his resignation at a press conference in Kathmandu today. He came under fire following his insensitive remarks during a programme organised at Praxis International Academy on July 20.

Tamang said that Nepali girls who are studying or have studied MBBS in Bangladesh were bound to compromise their honour to claim their certificates.

He issued apology but was under pressure from within his party to step down from his post.
