USCIRF condemns attacks in Rakhine state

A United States congressional panel, the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has strongly condemned the attacks in Myanmar’s Rakhine state.

USCIRF’s Chairman Daniel Mark termed the razing of villages and slaughtering of families by the Myanmar security forces as a staggering humanitarian disaster, said a press release.

“Burma’s security forces must end their attacks on civilians in Rakhine State,” he said.  “We call upon Burma’s de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi to unequivocally condemn the atrocities committed against Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine State.

USCIRF urged Burma to collaborate with international partners like the United Nations and humanitarian aid organisations to ensure support for the Rohingyas.
