South Korea has pledged humanitarian aid of USD 1.5 Million for emergency relief operation for a large number of Rohingya refugees who recently crossed the border into Bangladesh from Myanmar.

In response to the recent influx, on behalf of the South Korean government, Ahn Seong-doo, Ambassador of South Korea to Bangladesh has announced that the donation will be given through International Organization for Migration (IOM), said a press release today.

"I hope this assistance would contribute to lessening the suffering of refugees who recently fled in the wake of the latest violence in Rakhine state and improving their living conditions," Ambassador Ahn said.

The Republic of Korea has expressed deep concerns over the latest violence in the Rakhine state and the ensuing influx of refugees into Bangladesh. The country has also made clear its support for all the international efforts, including Bangladesh, to help the refugees.

The South Korea will continue to closely cooperate with the international community, including Bangladesh and the Myanmar government, to solve this issue.
