Syrians vote in first local polls since 2011

Syrians in government-controlled areas cast their ballots yesterday in the first local elections there since 2011 as President Bashar al-Assad regained control of much of the country.  Voting is underway in more than 6,550 voting centres across government-held parts of the country, state media reported.
