Monsoon likely to arrive in India on June 6

Monsoon rains, which usually arrive on the southern tip of Kerala around June 1, are expected to arrive on the country’s southern coast on June 6, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said yesterday. India receives 70 per cent of the annual rainfall in the monsoon season, which is key to the success of the agricultural sector. Meanwhile, temperatures pushed towards 50 degrees Celsius across much of India yesterday as an unrelenting heatwave triggered warnings of water shortages and left locals fearing for their livelihoods.
