Louisiana re-elects Democratic governor

Louisiana re-elected its Democratic governor Saturday in a fresh blow to US President Donald Trump, who campaigned heavily in the state. Governor John Bel Edwards, a conservative Democrat defeated a Republican opponent Eddie Rispone. The outcome is widely seen as the latest barometer on the value of Trump’s endorsement for Republican candidates ahead the 2020 elections. Edwards is the Deep South’s only Democratic governor.
