A fire has broken out at a mosque in south London.

A London Fire Brigade (LFB) spokesman said 70 firefighters and 10 engines were tackling the blaze at the Baitul Futuh Mosque in London Road in Morden.

He said about 50% of the building's ground floor was alight and the first floor was also on fire.

The brigade was called at just after 12:00 BST to the mosque, which also has a community centre attached.

An LFB spokesman said they had no information about anyone inside the building and it was too early to say what had caused the "large fire".

Julian Roman, from Morden, told the BBC: "There's really thick smoke at the minute.

"I saw it start from my window. There was a tiny bit of smoke, some alarms.

"Now there are firefighters, ambulances, hundreds of people."
