Shewrapara ‘stalker’ held

An alleged eve-teaser was arrested a day after he along with his associates beat up a youth for protesting the stalking of his cousin in the capital's Shewrapara area early today.

A team of police from Mirpur Police Station launched a drive in Shewrapara and arrested Fahim, Officer-in-charge of the police station Nazrul Islam told The Daily Star.

Police along with Fahim are now continuing their drive to arrest the other stalkers.

Several stalkers hit Ali Imam Rakib, 20, son of National Human Rights Commission's Women Affairs Secretary Sharmin Jaman, with iron rods as he protested stalking of his cousin at Shewrapara area yesterday.

When two local youths used indecent words and made an unwanted advance towards Rakib's cousin, a medical student, who was on her way to his house for a family gathering, Rakib protested it.

After a while, around five youths, including one of the two, attacked Rakib with iron rods when he went out again to buy soft drinks.

Rakib was undergoing treatment at National Institute of Traumatic Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation (NITOR) as his right leg was broken.
