Chhattisgarh anchor reads out news of husband’s fatal crash on live TV

A news anchor with a private TV channel in Chhattisgarh, India, had to read a breaking news update of a fatal road accident in which her husband was one of the victims.

Supreet Kaur, 28, a news anchor with Chhattisgarh's private IBC-24 channel, was asked to carry the breaking news update of a Renault Duster SUV having crashed, leaving three dead and two injured, 15 minutes into her reading the regular 10:00am bulletin on Saturday, reports NDTV.

The identity of the passengers of the SUV was not known immediately, however, Kaur realised that she could be reading out the news of her husband, who was travelling along with four others on the same route in a Renault Duster, according to various reports.

The news production team also realised it, but as she was on live television, they could not alert her, reports NDTV.

Yet, Kaur kept on reading the news, unfazed, and finished her show with composure.

She walked out of the studio after the show went off-air, called up the reporter to find out more details, and finally broke down, according to reports.

Supreet Kaur, a popular anchor, has been working for nine years with IBC-24 - one of Chhattisgarh's most-viewed channels.

Only last year she got married to Harsad Kawade. The couple lived in Raipur and has a daughter, reports NDTV.

According to her colleagues who were present when the news broke, Kaur had realised that it was her husband's vehicle while reading out the news, but "bravely" kept on reading the news.

Kaur later left for the accident site, reports said.

The incident has since garnered quite a few salutes on social media.
