Britain's Supreme Court began a series of hearings on Monday in a highly-charged case to decide whether or not parliament should give the government authorisation to begin Brexit negotiations.

The court's president David Neuberger opened the proceedings with a warning about the threats and abuse directed at people involved in the case and said the 11 judges would rule without any political bias.
