Bill Gates pledges to leave his £70b fortune for charity
Says his children are proud of his decision
Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft and the richest person in world, said he would leave his fortune worth £70 billion to charity and that his children understand his decision.
Gates, 60, also said that his three children are proud of his decision to dedicate his money to help the poorest people in the world, according to a report published on The Daily Mail on Wednesday.
“This money is dedicated to helping the poorest. They know that, they are proud of that, they go on trips with us to see the work that's being done,” Gates told This Morning presenters in a rare insight into his family life.
“Our kids will receive a great education and some money so they are never going to be poorly off but they'll go out and have their own career,” Gates also said.
“It's not a favour to kids to have them have huge sums of wealth. It distorts anything they might do, creating their own path,” he added.
Bill Gates and his wife Melinda, 52, have three children together, Jennifer, 20, Rory, 17, and Phoebe, 14.
Jennifer is a second year student at the prestigious Stanford University in California, where Gates donated £5 million for the construction of a computer science building in his name.
She is also an accomplished equestrian, often participating in national competitions, reports The Daily Mail.
Rory and Phoebe are believed to be school-goers and live with their parents at their home outside Seattle, Washington.
Most of Gates’ fortune will go to their charity, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which funds for health and education projects across the globe. Only a fraction of their vast wealth will pass on to their children.
