Bihar welder’s son lands Rs 1cr job

Vatsalya Singh Chauhan of India, landed a Rs 1.02 crore job with Microsoft in the US and says cracking the five-round selection process ‘was not very difficult’.

The IIT final year student’s father works as a welder in Khagaria of Bihar, reports NDTV.

"At first my father didn't believe me. Once the news was confirmed, he couldn't speak for a while," the boy, whose father Chandra Kant Singh took loans to send him to IIT," he said.

"My son told me that he had a landed a job, and I was very relieved and tears came out of my eyes because finally he had got what he worked for. Initially he told us that his package is for Rs. 90.5 lakhs but later we got to know that it was actually 1.02 crore annually, " NDTV reports quoting Vatsalya’s father Chandra Kant Chauhan.

On the selection process for Microsoft, Vatsalya said, "It wasn't very difficult but I did not have such big expectations. They were impressed in the interviews. When I passed Class X from the Bihar board, I didn't even know what the IITs were."

After Vatsalya did poorly in the IIT entrance exam in 2009, he enrolled at Kota in Rajasthan, known for its coaching classes for IIT hopefuls.

Three teachers there ensured his expenses were taken care of, according to Vatsalya's father. "Those three teachers spotted his talent and covered all the costs," he told NDTV on Friday. "I just had to pay for his train tickets when he came to see us."

Vatsalya now wants to give back. Sometime in the future, he wants to open a school for under-privileged students at Khagaria, reports NDTV.

But he is already guiding IIT aspirants who are in touch with him. "Seriously, it is very easy. If someone wants, they can contact me personally, I will be happy to guide them," he said.
