North Korea’s nuclear tests worry Dhaka

Expressing concern at the recent nuclear tests carried out by the North Korea, Bangladesh has urged the country to refrain from any activity which can potentially escalate the situation.

"This is in contravention to the UN Security Council Resolutions, no 1718, 1874, 2087 and 2094 and the non-proliferation regime," said a press release issued by the foreign ministry in Dhaka today.

"As a state party to the NPT and CTBT, Bangladesh is committed to nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament," the release added.

"Bangladesh urges the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to refrain from any activity which can potentially escalate the situation, and to reaffirm its commitment to the maintenance of peace and stability of the region and beyond," it also said. 

On January 6 2016, North Korea claimed to have successfully tested a hydrogen bomb amid reports of a tremor near the main nuclear test site.
