Lashkar behind terror attack, say police
Seven Indian pilgrims, mostly women, were killed yesterday night in Jammu and Kashmir in a “terror attack”, reports NDTV.
Terrorists opened fire on a bus returning from Amarnath shrine, killing the seven and injuring at least 20 more people in one of the worst “terror strikes” in the state, according to the Indian news portal.
Kashmir police have said that the terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba was behind the attack and the mastermind was a Pakistani terrorist, Ismail.
The bus was on its way back from the Amarnath shrine located in a narrow gorge at the end of a valley nearly 50 km from Pahalgam in India, reports NDTV.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he was "pained beyond words", tweeted last night: "India will never get bogged down by such cowardly attacks and the evil designs of hate."
India’s Home Minister Rajnath Singh has called a meeting to review security in Jammu and Kashmir, especially the Amarnath pilgrimage, which takes place every year under tight security that includes about 40,000 troops guarding the route and a satellite tracking system, reports NDTV.
