Shells fired from Yemen hit a water plant in Najran, the southwestern region of Saudi Arabia yesterday afternoon, injuring six expatriate workers including two Bangladeshis, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The Bangladeshi nationals were identified as Najibul of Brahmanbaria and Harun of Laxmipur, Mokammal Hossain, Labour Counsellor at Bangladesh Consulate in Jeddah told The Daily Star.

They worked for a Saudi-owned water factory at Najran, he added.

The other injured workers include three Indians and one Nepalese, the report said quoting a spokesperson of the Directorate of Civil Defence in Najran which is near the border with Yemen.

Parts of the plant and some parked vehicles were also damaged in the shell attack, the report also said.

Houthi militias backed by Iran had been firing missiles and shelling targets in the Kingdom's southern border, causing dozens of casualties since April 2015 when a Saudi-led coalition threw its support behind the government of President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi amid an offensive by Houthis and loyalists of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Last Wednesday, Saudi Arabian forces shot down two missiles launched from Yemeni territory and aimed at Abha and Khamis Mushait.
