15 killed in Arunachal landslide

At least 15 labourers were killed as a massive landslide triggered due to incessant rain hit a labour camp in Tawang district of northeastern Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh today, media reports.

The incident took place around 3:00am local time when around 17 labourers were engaged in construction works inside the camp 4km away from Tawang town, Additional Deputy Commissioner (headquarters) Lod Gambo was quoted as saying.

"So far nine bodies have been extricated from the debris," Gambo said, adding incessant rain for the past couple of days triggered landslides in several places of the district bordering China.

Gambo said rescue operation was on and efforts were underway to remove the debris.
