A woman and her two children were injured as miscreants set fire to their CNG-run auto-rickshaw by pouring petrol at Kazipara in Dhaka this evening ahead of the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s hartal.

They were rushed to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Inspector Mozammel Haque of DMCH Police Camp told The Daily Star.

The three were identified as Shamsun Nahar, her daughter Anika Akter and son Tanjimul Haque.

Palash Hossain, sub-inspector of Mirpur Police Station, told The Daily Star that the miscreants poured petrol on auto-rickshaw and torched it, leaving the hood of the vehicle burnt.

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old girl, Sathi, sustained splinter injuries when unidentified criminals hurled crude bombs near Shibbari Residential area on the Dhaka University campus, said a policeman of the DMCH camp.

In another development, miscreants set fire to a government bus at Purana Paltan this evening.

Two firefighting units doused the blaze of the staff bus of the public administration ministry, an official of the control room at Fire Service and Civil Defence told The Daily Star Online.

Morshed Alam, officer-in-charge of Paltan Police Station, told The Daily Star that there was no report of injuries in the incident.

He said the bus was set on fire at the Purana Paltan intersection around 6:00pm while carrying staffers to their destinations from the Bangladesh Secretariat.

The alliance yesterday called the dawn-to-dusk shutdown for tomorrow protesting "the foiling" of its Gazipur rally and arrest of party men.
