Wild elephant kills 2 in Netrakona
Two people were killed and two injured in separate attacks by wild elephants in Durgapur upazila of Netrakona early today.
An elephant was killed when Durgapur police opened fire to bring the situation under control, reports our Netrakona correspondent quoting local Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Saiful Islam.
The deceased are Shibu Pande, 40, of Nalua Para village and Taher Uddin, 70, hailed from Mithapukur Par village in the upazila.
The wild elephant entered Nalua Para village from Indian Meghalaya area and attacked the house of Shibu around 5:00pm, killing Shibu on the spot.
At the same time, Taher was come under the attack of elephants when he was returning home from a mosque after Fajr prayers, the UNO said.
Later, Ghita Rani Dey and Abdur Rahim were also injured as an elephant attacked Sadhupara village in the upazila, leaving them critically injured.
At the same time, the elephant damaged at least five houses at the village, our correspondent added.
On information, a police team of Durgapur Police Station rushed to the spot and shot 16 bullets at the elephant around 8:30am, killing it on the spot, the UNO said.
