When was he arrested?

When was he arrested?

Mohammad Monaem

Two separate announcements, one from the home ministry and another from the Rab, have given two separate dates of the arrest of a person stated to be a brother of the main accused in Burdwan blast case of India.

The Rapid Action Battalion in a press note yesterday claimed they have detained Mohammad Monaem in Farajikanda village under Bandar upazila of Narayanganj around 4:30am in the day.

The elite force also sent a text message to the media, saying Monaem is a brother of the Burdwan blast accused,

Sajid alias Sheikh Rahmatullah alias Masum.

But already on Monday noon, State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told the press that Sajid's brother Monaem had been detained. He, however, didn't mention any specific time of the arrest.

The announcements come ahead of the visit of a team from India's National Investigation Agency (NIA). The Indian investigators and officials in Dhaka are expected to share information on militancy.

The NIA is probing the October 2 Burdwan blast, which killed two suspected members of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

On Friday, it arrested Sajid in Kolkata. Believed to be a Bangladeshi national and a top JMB leader, he has been placed on a remand till November 20.

Rab's Media Wing Director Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan in the evening told The Daily Star that they have quizzed Monaem but got no information about militancy.

Monaem has a welding workshop in Naryanganj, he added.

Our Naryanganj correspondent reports that the name Sajid doesn't ring a bell with people of Farajikanda. But they said they heard that Monaem was arrested by a Rab team early yesterday and he has a brother named Masum or Masud.

It could not be known if this Masum or Masud, who has long been out of the area, is the Sajid arrested in Kolkata.
