War heroine passes away

War heroine Mamtaj Begum died at Latifpur in Sreepur of Gazipur on Wednesday. She was 65.
During the Liberation War, members of Pakistani occupation force tortured her while she was eight months pregnant, causing the death of the baby in the womb. Later, she was dumped in a sugarcane field, said her family.
Mamtaj Begum had to bear the trauma till death as she lost her capacity to answer to nature's call due to the barbaric attack and underwent at least 10 operations.
For the last 40 years, she had been dependent on a pipe attached to her belly for urinating.
